吊死鬼”平常是呆在樹上的，未老熟前不能吐絲。但是到能吐絲了以后，它們并不立即鉆入土中化蛹，還會在樹上呆一段時間，這時它們一旦受驚就會采取自我保護的措施——吐絲把自己懸在空中，脫離樹枝。
