雙語(yǔ)美文《勇氣》
The courage of life is often a less dramatic spectacle than the courage of a final moment; but it is no less a magnificent mixture of triumph and tragedy. A man does what he must - in spite of personal consequences, in spite of obstacles and dangers and pressures - and that is the basis of all human morality.
人生之中的勇氣，常常不像千鈞一發(fā)時(shí)刻的勇氣那樣充滿戲劇性;但是它卻同樣是一個(gè)有關(guān)勝利與悲劇的壯觀結(jié)合 體。一個(gè)人要去做他必須做的任何亊情——將個(gè)人得失置之度 外,將諸多的障礙、危險(xiǎn)和壓力拋在腦后一這便是人類一切道 德的基礎(chǔ)。
To be courageous , requires no exceptional qualifications, no magic formula, no special combination of time, place and circumstance. It is an opportunity that sooner or later is presented to us all. Politics merely furnishes one arena which imposes special tests of courage. In whatever arena of life one may meet the challenge of courage, whatever maybe the sacrifices he faces if he follows his conscience - the loss of his friends, his fortune, his contentment, even the esteem of his fellow men - each man must decide for himself the course he will follow. The stories of past courage can define that ingredient, they can teach, they can offer hope, they can provide inspiration. But they cannot supply courage itself. For this ,each man must look into his own soul.
勇氣，不需要額外的條件，也沒(méi)有奇妙的規(guī)則，同樣也不需要時(shí)間、地點(diǎn)和情勢(shì)的特意結(jié)合,我們每個(gè)人遲早都會(huì)遇到這 樣一個(gè)機(jī)會(huì)。政治只不過(guò)是對(duì)勇氣進(jìn)行特別考驗(yàn)的一個(gè)場(chǎng)所罷了。無(wú)論在人生的何種場(chǎng)合下遭遇勇氣的挑戰(zhàn)，也不論為了遒 從自己的良知而將面對(duì)的犧牲——朋友、財(cái)富和滿足的喪失，甚至于其他人對(duì)你的敬重——每個(gè)人都必須自己決斷其所遵行的 方針路線。他人勇敢的故事可以闡釋那個(gè)因素——能夠教導(dǎo)我 們，為我們提供希望和靈感，但卻不能給予我們勇氣。因此，每 個(gè)人必須深入到自己的靈魂之中去尋找勇氣。
