　　Happiness is like a stone dropped into a pool to set in motion an every widening, circle of ripples. As Stevenson has said, "being happy is a duty."

　　快樂好似扔入池子里的一顆石頭，會激起不斷擴(kuò)散的陣陣漣漪。正如斯蒂文森所言：“快樂是一種責(zé)任。”

　　There is no exact definition of the word happiness. Happy people are happy for all sorts of reasons. The key is not wealth or physical well-being, since we find beggars, patients and so-called failures who are extremely happy.

　　快樂這個字眼并沒有確切的定義。快樂的人可以因種種理由而快樂。其關(guān)鍵并非在財富或健康，因為我們發(fā)現(xiàn)有些乞丐、病人和所謂的失敗者非常快樂。

　　Being happy is a sort of unexpected dividend. But staying happy is an accomplishment, a triumph of soul and character; it is not selfish to struggle for it. It is indeed, a duty to ourselves and others.

　　快樂是一種意料不到的收獲。而能保持快樂則是一項成就，也是靈魂與品性的勝利。努力追求快樂算不上自私。事實上，追求快樂不僅是對我們自己、也是對別人的一種責(zé)任。

　　Being unhappy is like an infectious disease; it causes people to shrink away from the sufferer. He soon frnds himself alone, miserable and embittered.There is, however, a cure so simple as to seem, at first glance, ridiculous: If you don't feel happy, pretend to be!

　　悶悶不樂就像一種傳染病，染上這種病的人大家都唯恐避之不及。這種人很快就會發(fā)現(xiàn)自己感到孤獨、痛苦和難過。但是，有種很簡單的讓自己快樂的方法，乍看起來你會覺得它似乎荒謬可笑，那就是：如果你覺得不快樂，就假裝快樂吧!

　　It works. Before long you will that instead of repelling people, you attract them, You discover how deeply rewarding it is to be the center of wider and wider circles of good will.

　　這個方法很奏效。不久你就會發(fā)現(xiàn)自己非但不會使人反感，反而還能吸引別人。你會發(fā)現(xiàn)，能夠成為廣結(jié)善緣的中心人物是多么值得的事!

　　Then the make-believe becomes a realityr. You possess the secret of peace of mind and can forget yourself in being of service to others,

　　于是，原本裝扮的快樂就變成了真正的快樂。你擁有心境平和的秘訣而又能忘我地服務(wù)他人。

　　Being happy once it is realized as a duty and established as a habit opens doors into unimaginable gardens thronged with grateful friends.

　　—旦快樂被當(dāng)作一種責(zé)任并成為一種習(xí)慣的時候，它就會開啟大門，引領(lǐng)我們進(jìn)入無法想象的花園中，里面云集著滿懷感激的朋友。
